Croke park awaits Mayo

This weekend's club fixtures involving County players are shelved to prepare for the final

Club fixtures in Mayo involving County players, have been pulled in preparation for Mayo's upcoming appearance in the All-Ireland Final.  Several intermediate fixtures will also be dropped, as The Heather County hope to give players as much of a chance to focus on county play as possible.

The Mayo County Board said, that while the decision wasn't taken lightly, they wanted to give the county players a full four weeks to prepare for September's final.

Former Mayo player Billy Joe Padden believes that the right call has been made.  "If there'd been club games this week" said Padden "there'd have to be recovery next week which would give you only two or three training sessions ahead of an All-Ireland Final."

Mayo will take on either Dublin or Kerry in the final at Croke Park on the 18th September.

The postponed senior and intermediate games are scheduled to be played the weekend after.
