Coleraine extend lead while Crues move into 2nd place

Coleraine have stretched their lead at the top of the Danske Bank Premiership to six points after drawing 1-1 with Crusaders at the Showgrounds on Saturday.

Jamie McGonigle put the Bannsiders in front, but Howard Beverland grabbed the Crues' equaliser against his former club.

The point takes Stephen Baxter's men above Glenavon into second place on goal difference. 

 

Cliftonville moved back up to fourth in the standings with a 1-0 home win against Ballymena. 

Stephen Garrett scored in the second half as Barry Gray's team made it five wins in a row without conceding a goal.

Sky Blues keeper Ross Glendinning felt the visitors were the better side.

Glentoran lost 2-0 against Ards.

It was the north Down side's first competitive victory over the Glens at the Oval since 1987.

Ryan Harpur hit a hat-trick as Dungannon Swifts beat visiting Carrick Rangers 4-0.

And it finished 1-1 between Ballinamallard and Warrenpoint Town in the late kick-off at Ferney Park.

Mallards midfielder Richard Clarke was sent off 20 minutes from time. 

 

In the Friday night game, Linfield completed back-to-back victories against the top two by beating Glenavon 1-0 at Mourneview Park.

Cameron Stewart headed the only goal in the first half. 

Blues boss David Healy said his players have answered their critics in style.

It was the Lurgan Blues' first home defeat of the season.

Manager Gary Hamilton claimed they got a raw deal on some big decisions.
