Two security alerts sparked in Co. Antrim overnight have now ended and been declared as hoaxes by police.

At around 6.40pm, officers were called to the Antrim Road area of Glengormley following reports of a suspicious object.

ATO were tasked to the scene and the object was declared an "elaborate hoax".

The Antrim Road has since reopened following the incident.

Meanwhile, shortly after 8.35pm police received a report of another suspicious object in the City Way area of Belfast.

Following examination, the item was also declared a hoax.

A number of homes were evacuated as police carried out a public safety operation.

Inspector Eastwood said, "Residents returned to their home and police would like to thank them for their patience during this incident.”
