Two men arrested in connection with the attempted murder of a female police officer have been released.

The men, aged 47 and 48, were detained on Monday for questioning about the murder bid in Dungiven, Co Londonderry last week.

They were both released on Wednesday.

The 48-year-old was further arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class A controlled drug and was released on bail pending further inquiries.

Dissident republican group the New IRA has claimed responsibility for the murder bid, which saw a bomb placed beside the part-time officer’s car.

The device, described as being designed to create a fireball, was left beside where the officer’s three-year-old daughter sits in the vehicle.

Two other men, aged 36 and 26, who were arrested last week in Co Derry in connection with the attempted murder were released on Saturday.
