Two men are being questioned by police as part of investigations into dissident republican activity, linked to the Continuity IRA.

Searches took place in west Belfast and Newtownabbey yesterday where a number of items, including ammunition, were seized.

A 39 year old was detained in Newtownabbey last night, after a 31-year-old was arrested in west Belfast earlier in the day.

Both remain in custody.

Detective Inspector Adrian Brown said: “A number of searches were conducted in west Belfast and Newtownabbey on Thursday in connection with an ongoing investigation into violent dissident republican activity linked to the Continuity IRA.

"A number of items, including a quantity of suspected ammunition, have been seized for further examination.
