Three people have been arrested in connection with an aggravated burglary at a sports social club in West Belfast.

Police say a member of public raised the alarm, reporting a number of people had forced entry to the premises on the Upper Springfield road at around 1.50am.

It's believed they left the scene in a silver car.

Using information provided by the reporting person, officers later stopped a silver Peugeot 307 car.

The occupants of the car, two men aged 26 and 27 and a 26-year-old woman, were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and going equipped for theft.

All three suspects remain in custody assisting the PSNI with enquiries.

It is unclear at this time if anything was taken from the club.

Detective Sergeant Paddy Conlan said, “I would like to thank the member of the public for their quick thinking and prompt actions in alerting police to this incident.

"I would also ask anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area at the time or who has any information which could assist us with our enquiries to contact detectives at Musgrave on 101 quoting reference number 75 15/04/19.

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
