The DUP's Peter Keith Johnston has been named as Carrickfergus Castle's newest Councillor in Mid and East Antrim.

The election was called to replace independent Councillor Jim Brown who died in August.

Less than 3000 people turned up to vote, equating to just under 22%.

Mr Johnston received nearly 40% of the total vote with John McDermott from the UUP and Lauren Gray from Alliance following closely behind.

The winning candidate said, "My ambition is to make Carrickfergus a better place for everyone, bu ensuring our vital services are properly funded and our businesses are supported to grow and develop. Carrickfergus has a great story to tell, and with the right support, I believe this great town can become a tourist hub for people from right across the world."
