Celebrating the launch of their extensive new menu for Thanksgiving, Hot Igloo Restaurant is now in partnership with the Newtownabbey Foodbank, raising awareness of the foodbank and encouraging donations.

As Americans worldwide celebrate thanksgiving, a Glengormley-based restaurant is celebrating too by helping their local foodbank.

Family-run eatery Hot Igloo, which opened earlier this year, is donating food and acting as a drop-off point for those who want to donate to Newtownabbey Foodbank.

It's also making plans to offer at least four jobs a year to those in need.

The Thanksgiving action was inspired after the Boyds, who run the restaurant, heard that one in five children in Newtownabbey are living below the poverty line.

Manager David Boyd said, "It’s very sad to think that as we all enjoy delicious food each and every week that our neighbours might be struggling to provide even the simplest of meals for themselves and their family.

"At Hot Igloo we aim to be a part of the community and being truly involved means helping others. We are encouraging our customers to bring in a donation to our foodbank drop box and in return we will offer all who donate 20% off their food bill from Monday – Wednesday.

He continued, "It’s our way of saying both thank you to our customers and encouraging all of us to be thankful for what we have."

For those wishing to donate there will be a food collection box for non-perishables in Hot Igloo. Those in need of the foodbanks can visit the following:
Carnmoney Presbyterian - Monday 2pm – 4pm or Wednesday 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Abbots Cross Presbyterian Church - Tuesday 10am – 12noon or Thursday 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Ballyclare Presbyterian Church - Thursday 2.30pm - 5pm
Greencastle Methodist - Tuesday 6.30pm – 8pm or Friday 3pm – 4.30pm
