A taser stun gun has allegedly been used during an assault on a pensioner and in a robbery in Belfast City Centre.

At around 7 last night a man in his 60's was reportedly attacked close to Belfast City Hall.

The victim was 'pinned to the ground and punched' by an unknown man - who then fled on foot.

Police suspect a taser stun gun may have been used during the alleged assault.

The suspect is described as being in his late 20's, of heavy build, and had black hair.

He was wearing a red Adidas tracksuit top with black tracksuit bottoms.

A few hours later - at around 12.30am - a staff member was threatened with what was described a taser stun gun at a business in North Queen Street.

The two men involved fled both had their faces covered.

One was wearing a red Adidas jacket.

Police think both incidents could be linked and have asked anyone with more information to get in touch.

Detective Sergeant Eric Fairfield said:

"We believe these two incidents may be linked and I want to appeal to anyone who has information about either of them and which may assist our investigation, or who witnessed either incident to call detectives at Musgrave on the non emergency number 101, quoting reference number 38 of 28/04/19 or 1044 of 27/04/19."
