We're told the injuries to a man shot in both legs in west Belfast could potentially change his life.

The 29-year-old was taken to hospital from an alleyway around Iris Court last night.

Officers were called at around 8.40pm.

Chief Inspector Kellie McMillan said: "The 29 year old victim was taken to hospital for treatment. We understand that his injuries could potentially be life changing. This could have a significant impact on the rest of his life.

"Violent crime such as this must stop. Not only is there an impact on the victim and their family, but also on the community who are left in fear of such violence taking place on their doorstep.

"So I am appealing for the community to work with us and give us the information we need to put those criminals responsible before the courts to face justice and make West Belfast a safer place.

"To anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that could assist with the investigation, please contact Detectives at Musgrave Criminal Investigation Branch on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1378 29/11/17.

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
