Emergency services have been stood down following an incident at George Best Belfast City airport.

Fire and ambulance vehicles rushed to the scene shortly before 9am in preparation for a landing flight.

It's understood an inbound Flybe plane suffered difficulties in the air, but managed to land safely.

A spokesperson for the company said: "Flybe can confirm that the aircraft operating the above flight landed safely on schedule at George Best Belfast City Airport with a crack which had appeared on the right-hand side of the outer layer of its windscreen.

"The captain took the necessary action and, as a usual precautionary measure, the airport put it emergency vehicles on standby.

"The aircraft taxied without further incident to stand where all passengers disembarked as normal."
