Two men have been arrested following a "savage" stabbing at a house in Co Down.
The male victim is currently undergoing surgery after being attacked in a house on Talbot Street in Newry at around 10.30pm last night.
PSNI officers attended the property after being alerted to the incident by NI Ambulance Service staff who transported the 41-year-old patient to hospital for treatment to stab wounds on his leg.
Police have described his injuries as "life changing".
Two suspects, aged 22 and 35, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder.
Newry Sinn Féin Councillor Valerie Harte said the violent incident has caused "huge concern" and shock in the community.
"This news has to shocked us all," she said.
"Stabbing sand knife crime in general have become all to regular.
"Those engaged in these violent criminal acts need to be apprehended and face the full rigours of the law."
Detective Inspector Trevor Stevenson said officers attended the scene at around 10.35pm.
"The male victim, aged 41 years old, was taken to hospital where he remains this morning undergoing surgery.
"The two men we arrested remain in custody as we continue with our enquiries.
"This was a savage attack which has left the victim with life changing injuries, and I want to appeal to anyone who was in the Talbot Street area last night, prior to or around the time the incident was reported to us, to get in touch.
"Anyone who has information which can help us establish what occurred is asked to call 101, quoting reference number 2031 of 24/01/20 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
