The Coleraine schoolkids get to showcase their ability in CBBC's 'Top Class'
"It actually was quite an arduous process" said Principal Sharon Lamont "we believed in them wholeheartedly". Millburn are the only school from Northern Ireland to take appear in CBBC's new quiz show 'Top Class' and Principal Lamont had plenty of reasons to enter her students.
Sharon Lamont on how the school decided to participate:
"We're very keen to always give our children the best possibilities and widen their scope" said Sharon "they're a very capable bunch". After the decision was made to apply, Millburn pupils had to take a series of tests in Literacy, numeracy, geography and general curricular areas. After putting in their test scores, the school were soon notified that they would be heading to Glasgow to take part in the show.
Principal Lamont on the kids performance:
The school's participation is more than just an attempt to win, there's much to be said for kids being able to experience events such as the 'Top Class' quiz. "Taking children into television studios, making them stars for a number of days, its just wonderful" said Sharon "The whole ethos of the school would resonate around that; make a child feel special, make a child feel respected." It's a part of the schools plan to give their pupils experiences beyond just the school building. "You cant give a child that experience in just the classroom" said Sharon "We're a school that totally believes in our childrens' abilities.
Principal Lamont on the imprtance of such events to Millburn:
P7 teacher Ruari McClean was the nominated teacher to join the kids on their TV appearance. Their tussle with Brandhall Primary from the West Midlands will air at 3:55pm on Thursday 15th September.
