A man has died in a "severe" house fire in Omagh - the third fatal house fire in Northern Ireland in just a week.

Q Radio understands crews were called to the Botera Road last night.

Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue says "three appliances were tasked to the incident and unfortunately a gentleman has lost his life".

Chief Fire Officer Alan Walmsley told us "first and foremost the thoughts of everybody within the Fire and Rescue Service are with the gentleman's family and with the local community".

Adding, that the Service is "extremely worried that this is the third fatality in the last seven days (...) involving men potentially over the age of 50 and potentially living alone".

Another man lost his life last Saturday in Belfast, while another died midweek in Toomebridge.

Chief Fire Officer Walmsley says it's a "wake up call for everyone to think about fire safety in their own home".
