The man who died in a car crash outside Ballycastle has been named locally as Sean McAlonan who was in his twenties.

Mr. McAlonan was one of three people travelling in a small van which left the Glenshesk Road early on Sunday morning.

Two others are in hospital being treated for injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

ocal councillor, Cara McShane told Q Radio:" The death of this young man has left the community totally shocked and the thoughts and prayers of everyone is with his family. "This is an awful accident at any time of the year, but we are now almost at Christmas. It is heartbreaking."

The dead man's family are prominent in the local business community.

Yesterday a PSNI Inspector  said a single-vehicle collision on the Glenshesk Road, involving a white Citroen Berlingo van, was reported to us at 6:05am.

He continued: "There were three people travelling in the van at the time.“Police attended along with the other emergency services. Two of the occupants were taken to hospital for their injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening at this time. I want to appeal to anyone who was on the Glenshesk Road around 6am on Sunday morning and witnessed the collision, or anyone who may have captured dash cam footage to contact us. I would also appeal to anyone who believes they saw this vehicle prior to the collision to get in touch.”
