A number of posters with racist slogans have been put up around Portrush.

They were spotted in the Girona Avenue area of the town, with phrases including 'Thank you for not mixing' and 'Save our race'.

Local Councillor Chris McCaw has branded them as "disgusting".

He says whoever has erected the posters are trying to "sow division among people in Portrush".

With the 148th golf Open taking place in the town in July Councillor McCaw says local people must stand up to anyone trying to push this kind of negative image of the town.

The major event is expected to bring around 190,000 visitors to the North Coast, when it returns to Northern Ireland for the first time in 70 years.

A PSNI spokesperson confirmed the matter had been reported to them and said the posters were subsequently removed.
