Hundreds strip down for annual charity 'Santa Splash' in Portrush

Hundreds of people stripped down in the cold in Portrush yesterday for the annual 'Santa Splash'.

This year money raised by those taking a dip in just their swimming costumes and Santa hats will be donated to the RNLI in Portrush.

Kenny McAree is a life-guard and swimming teacher from Dungannon. He told Q Radio why he decided to brave the cold to take part in the event:

Safety cover for the event was covered by RNLI Beach Lifeguards.

A spokesperson for the event said:

"This year we are delighted to be raising money for the RNLI Portrush. We are proud to support the local men and women of our Lifeboat Station who put their lives at risk to keep us safe on a daily basis. We are absolutely delighted to announce that Barclays will once again match fundraising for this event up to £7,000"
