Michelle O'Neill says the Health Trust does not have any ‘major plans for change’ at Causeway

Questioning the Minister on the current services at the hospital during a debate at Stormont on Tuesday, the Health Minister confirmed to Maurice Bradley MLA, that the Trust did not have any ‘major plans for change’.

Pressing the Health Minister further, the East Londonderry MLA asked if the Minister agreed that the Causeway Hospital was an ‘integral part’ of the North-West’s health infrastructure. He further pointed out that events such as the North West 200 needed the support of the hospital.

Mr Bradley said the comments and assurances given by the Minister, including the fact that the Northern Trust would be allocated a share of £13 million from the June monitoring round, was positive news for Causeway.

He said, “I know of the continued pressures the staff at Causeway are under and I hope that these comments from the Minister will give staff some assurances and boost morale.

No one would ever question the important, lifesaving work that goes on at Causeway – it is vital that the services we currently have at the Causeway Hospital remain there.

I will continue to press the Minister to ensure we keep vital services at Causeway, it is so important for this area, given the fact our population increases dramatically over the summer period with holiday makers.”
