The East Londonderry MLA has condemned those behind the theft of a defibrillator in Portstewart over the weekend

A Gerry Mullan has condemned those behind the theft of a defibrillator from a Portstewart shop.  Thea East Londonderry MLA called it a "senseless criminals." This is the second time a defibrillator has been stolen from the shop.

“It’s difficult to imagine what could drive someone to steal a defibrillator." said Mr Mullan "This is a life-saving piece of medical equipment that is absolutely no use to anyone who isn’t suffering from a heart attack. The senseless theft of this equipment is not only a callous crime but it has put lives in danger."

Police say the theft happened in the early hours of Sunday morning, with CCTV at the shop showing two men, who were heading in the direction of Coleraine

“This isn’t the first time this defibrillator has been stolen but thankfully it was returned after the last incident." add Mr Mullan "I hope those behind the theft this time will also realise how dangerous their behaviour has been and that they’ll return the equipment immediately."

Mr Mullan reiterated the police's request, for anybody with any information to come forward.
