Three men have been injured after being assaulted by a gang armed with a baton and hammer during an aggravated burglary in Belfast.

It happened at a house in the Calvin Street area of the city, when five men, one wearing a balaclava gained entry shortly before 00.45am.

Three men aged 47, 49 and 53 were inside the property at the time and suffered injuries which are not believed to be serious.

The inside of the property was also damaged before the men involved made off towards the Upper Frank Street area following the incident.

Police say they are also investigating a possible link between the burglary and an earlier assault.

It involved a man and a delivery driver which also occurred in the Calvin Street area at around 4.50pm yesterday afternoon.

There were no reports of any serious injuries.

Detective Sergeant O'Flaherty appealed for anyone with any information regarding either incident to contact police on 101, quoting reference 42 7/8/19.

Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
