Eight pumping appliances and 70 firefighters have attended a large gorse incident in Dungiven.

The alarm was raised in the Altahullion Hill area last night.

Area Commander with the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service Mark Smyth, believes the fire was started deliberately:

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Spokesperson said:

“We are attending a large gorse incident at Altahullion Hill, Dungiven. There are presently 8 pumping appliances, specialist appliances, specialist wildfire response teams and 70 Firefighters.
We would ask the public to avoid the area in order not to impede fire service operations.”

It's understood Fire crews also attended a similar blaze in the Mournes area of County Down, last night.
