The family of a coronavirus survivor is appealing for Stormont to save the County Tyrone nursing home he's lived in for the past seven years.

Valley Nursing Home in Clogher is due to close next Wednesday.

64-year-old Dungannon man Donal Cullen faces the upheaval of being moved just weeks after he was critically ill with Covid-19.

His brother, former local councillor Gerry Cullen, has urged the First and Deputy First Ministers to intervene.

A RQIA spokesperson said it did not take the decision lightly.

“As a result of continuing serious concerns about the quality of care and the environment for residents at Valley Nursing Home, which the current owners and service providers have been unable to resolve, RQIA has taken enforcement action to deregister Health Care Ireland as the registered provider of this home with effect from 6 January 2021.

"RQIA has not taken this decision lightly, and we are highly sensitive to this happening during the Covid-19 pandemic..."
