Deliberate fire started at homeless shelter in Derry-Londonderry

A deliberate fire was started outside a homeless shelter for women in Derry-Londonderry last night.

Fire crews were called to Foyle Valley House in on the city’s Foyle Road shortly after 9pm.

Fourteen residents and two staff had to be evacuated while fire officers dealt with the incident which started after a large tree was set alight next to the building, sending thick smoke into the attic space.
