Funeral to be held later for 12 year-old Nicole Fegan

The funeral for Nicole Fegan will be held later today.

The mass will take place at St.Patrick's Church in Mayobridge at 12 noon.

Hundreds of people attended a vigil on Monday as the 12-year-old's remains were brought back to her Mayobridge home.

She had been travelling on a beach buggy with a friend when it collided with a 4x4 on the Flagstaff Road on Saturday.

A 14 year-old girl who was also on the buggy is recovering in hospital with a broken leg.

Relative Adrian Fegan thanked people for their support:


Nicole had performed in the Mayobridge Scór na nÓg the day before she died. She was a first year student at Our Lady's Grammar School.

Meanwhile,

A local Parish Priest in Newry says the community is reeling following the death of the Our Lady's Grammar pupil.

Parish Priest of St. Patrick's Church, Mayobridge is Father Charles Byrne.

In a Facebook post, the Committee and members of Mayobridge GAC say they're "greatly shocked and deeply saddened" by the death of the camogie, football and handball player.

Newry Mourne & Down Councillor Liz Kimmins has said "The entire area had been left reeling in deep shock from the news of the death of a young girl".

Adding, "Our deepest sympathy to the family of the young girl who has lost her life in this tragedy

"We also hope that the other young girl injured makes a full recovery".
