Couple taken to hospital after being attacked by youths in west Belfast

A man and woman have been attacked by a group of youths in west Belfast. 

The victims were taken to hospital after being punched and kicked on Cherry Road in the early hours of this morning. 

It happened after the couple asked the young people to move on at around 12.40am. 

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police are investigating the report of an assault at Cherry Road in the Collin area of west Belfast in the early hours of Tuesday 29th December".

"It was reported that a man and a woman were punched and kicked by a group of youths in the street at around 12.40am on Tuesday morning.

"The incident is believed to have occurred after the couple had asked the youths to move on. The man and woman were taken to hospital following the assault and treated for cuts and bruising.

"Enquiries are ongoing to identify those involved and officers would ask anyone with information about this incident or who may be able to help with the investigation to call police at Woodbourne on the non-emergency number 101 quoting reference number 35 29/12/20."
