Council to discuss regeneration of Portrush with the public

Public event to be held to establish Portrush Consultation Forum

A little over a week ago, The Executive committed £500,000 towards advancing the regeneration of Portrush.  The funding came from Paul Givan's Department of Communities and is an early sign of exciting times ahead for Portrush.

Now Causeway Coast and Glens District Council is inviting the public to 'have their say' on the future of the town.  In a public event on Thursday, September 29th, the public are being invited to help 'play a crucial role in the towns regeneration'.  Regarding the event, District Mayor Alderman Maura Hickey stressed, that the town needs to take full advantage of the opportunities afforded to it.

Golf's Open Championship is to be held at Royal Portush in 2019 in what will arguably be the biggest sporting event to ever be held in Northern Ireland.  With Portrush appearing on such a genuinely global stage, there is genuine optimism that the seaside town in the best possible position.

The £500,000 provided by the Executive has been earmarked to begin giving the town somewhat of a 'facelift' with work being done on the town centre and to help improve the train station.  The Council say that the Forum is "open to all members of the public who have an interest in reaffirming Portrush’s position as Northern Ireland’s premier resort destination."

The meeting takes place in the Town Hall on the 29th September at 7pm
