Q Radio news

A man jailed for the murder of his ex partner at a Portstewart launderette has died in hospital.

Fred McClenaghan was serving a 13 year sentence for killing mother of four, Marion Millican, in March 2011.

He had long denied the killing but in September 2017, changed his plea to guilty during his third trial related to the murder.

It's understood 57-year-old Mr. McClenaghan fell ill last week and was transferred from his prison cell at Maghaberry to a hospital in Northern Ireland.

He received treatment, but yesterday the Prison Service announced he had passed away.

It's understood the reason for his death was 'natural causes'.

His next of kin have been informed.

As with standard procedure, the PSNI, the Coroner and the Prisoner Ombudsman have been informed.
