A week of events throughout the district promoting cultural diversity and mutual respect

Running from the 19th to the 25th September, Community Relations and Cultural Awareness Week is a province-wide series of events run by local Community and voluntary sectors.  Throughout the week, arts, culture, sport and education sectors put forward innovative ways to promote a shared future.

All 11 council Districts are getting involved with the week and Causeway Coast and Glens is no exception.  Limavady get things started tomorrow with the 'Launch of Peace Pledges' at Roe Valley Arts Centre.  Each School in Limavady has adopted a unique 'peace pledge' and the pupils are encouraged to adhere to it.  The pupils then created bunting to display their individual peace pledges. The pledges are in keeping with the concepts of the week, dealing with cultural diversity and respect for other cultures.

Following that, there is a training workshop in Ballymoney on Wednesday.  The event in Acorn Business Centre, brings different groups and organisations from throughout the area to 'share their life experiences'.  There is an evening of 'youth led debate' in Ballycastle on Thursday at the Corymeela Centre, while the next day (Thursday) Ballymoney Town Hall plays host to 'Question Time'  where the public will get to question MLA's from the area.

On Thursday night there is a one-off screening of a new play called 'The Lantern Man'.  The play deals with the turbulent events leading up to the 1916 Easter Rising.  The play at the Riverside Theatre is followed by an audience discussion to 'greater understand this period in our history'.

On the same night, the Northern Ireland Housing Executive will be screening the documentary 'Mary meets Mohammad'.  Again there will be a discussion afterwards about what lessons the audience can draw from the film.
