Coleraine library is to close temporarily as of Monday 13th to undertake an anticipated £2 million refurbishment

Library Services NI says it is to deliver 'significant improvements' to the library, including a new entrance lobby with a passenger lift to all floors

The extension will also provide a new meeting room and microfilm viewing room, which the Library Service says will 'maximise the use of the library's heritage resources'.

Further improvements include general work such a larger children's Library on the lower ground floor, as well as general upgrades such as improved heating and insulation.

As the library is a listed building, Libraries NI is taking advice from planning and conservation experts to ensure that the work will maintain the architectural heritage of the building.

In the interim there will be a temporary library situated in the Diamond Shopping Centre, which is expected to open later this month.

During this time, customers can also visit nearby libraries operating as usual.
