Children find suspected firearm in Lisburn

Children have found a suspected firearm in Lisburn.

It was discovered when they were playing in the Gregg Street area yesterday.

The suspected weapon has been taken away for examination.

 

Chief Inspector Jonathan Wilson said:

“The suspected weapon was recklessly abandoned and was discovered by a number of children who had been playing in the area. Police recovered the item and it was taken away for examination. "

"This potentially could have caused serious harm and we are appealing for anyone who may have any information to assist our enquiries to contact police in Lisburn on 101 quoting reference number 1803 of 01/08/19.” 

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
