Jim Carrey reveals what he learned in his brief time away from Hollywood

Jim Carrey has a "new appreciation" for acting following his break from Hollywood before he made a comeback in 'Sonic 3'.

The 62-year-old star announced that he was stepping down from his long career in Hollywood in 2022 after nearly 40 years on the film scene but then came out of retirement to play Doctor Eggman in 'Sonic the Hedgehog 3' and "valued" the time he had away.

He told E! News: "I think whenever you step away from something, even if it's something you love, you get a new appreciation for it. So I do value the rest. And I also value getting out of people's faces, you know what I mean?

The Hollywood actor was then asked about the most "awe-inspiring" moment of his career so far and admitted that he just has more "gratitude" for it now, especially around the festive time of year that he can see that new generations of youngsters can be introduced to his Christmas classic 'The Grinch'.

He added: "It's less about awe than it is just about...I appreciate it. I'm gratified by it. When 'The Grinch' comes on every year, I sit go back and I go 'Wow!' When the kids are old enough, they'll see that and they'll go 'That guy's cool!'"

Jim recently admitted that he decided to return to his career on screen because he "needed" the money.

He told reporters when asked why he has come out of “retirement”: “I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch.

“And, you know, it’s just… I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly.”

Jim starred in the last two ‘Sonic’ films, which came out in 2020 and 2022.

But while promoting the second installment in the computer game-inspired franchise, the actor said: “Well, I’m retiring. I’m being fairly serious.

“I feel like – and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists – I have enough.

“I’ve done enough. I am enough.”
