Public urged to get firework licence ahead of Halloween

People are being reminded it's against the law to buy, possess or use fireworks without first obtaining a licence. 

The Department of Justice has issued this warning ahead of the Halloween period. 

It's also now accepting applications for licences, which must be submitted by Tuesday 23rd October 2018. 

A spokesperson for the Department says it'll process them as quickly as possible, although those wishing to obtain a licence are urged to apply in good time.

Robert Kidd, Head of the department's Firearms and Explosives told Q Radio, people must also be aware of the risks of obtaining fireworks from sources other than registered suppliers: 

Licence applications and a list of retailers licensed to sell fireworks are available from www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/fireworks. 

Application forms are also available by telephoning 0300 200 7881or directly from a registered retailer.

The licence fee where there are less than 100 spectators is £30; for 100 to 1,000 spectators is £80 and for more than 1,000 spectators is £160.
