A man has been injured after fighting off two men, one armed with a gun, at his home in Newtownabbey.

The suspects forced entry to the hallway of the property in the Fernagh Drive area at around 4.30pm yesterday.

The occupant fought both men off, forcing them to leave and they made off on foot.

The man living in the house sustained a facial injury as a result of the incident but did not require medical assistance.

A 47-year-old man matching the suspects description has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary with intent to commit grievous bodily harm and possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances.

He remains in custody assisting with police enquiries.

Efforts are ongoing to locate the second suspect who is described as being approximately 5’8” tall, around 35 years old, heavy build with short dark hair and stubble and was wearing glasses.
