Today marks the first of three where the chair of a Pathfinder Group, tasked with solving the staffing crisis at Daisy Hill's A&E, will meet members of the public.

Doctor Anne-Marie Telford and her team are engaging with locals to hear their ideas on how they can "best work together" to find a positive solution for the Newry hospital.

Today she starts in Kilkeel, and over the next two days she'll meet people in Newry and Crossmaglen.

The Southern Health Trust set up the Pathfinder Group in response to  a severe shortage of emergency doctors at Daisy Hill Hospitals Emergency Department.

It followed the threat of slashed opening hours due to the potential for a reduction in locum cover at the hospital over the summer months.

Talks between all the Northern Ireland Trusts and health service stakeholders averted a short-term shutdown, resulting in a regional commitment to keeping the hospital's A&E a 24-hour emergency service.
