Tyrone man Cathal Corey has been chosen as the new manager of the Sligo Senior Football team.

Following a meeting with the county board on Monday, Cathal will be taking over Niall Carew who resigned after 3 years.

This will be Corey's first inter-county position, however twice he was linked as a contender for the post of Donegal manager after Jim McGuinness in 2014.

He has worked with UUJ and Slaughtneil since then and has interviewed for the Derry job in 2012.

His debut for Sligo will be in January for their opening game of the 2018 National League campaign against Armagh.

Sligo's backroom team will be finalised next week.
