Teens arrested after man and woman assaulted in Portrush

Two teenagers have been arrested after a woman was attacked and spat on in Portrush. 

The victim, aged in her 40s, was targeted by a male who was armed with a knife on Castle Erin Road at around 7pm last night.

A man in his 50s was hit on the head with a piece of wood as he tried to help the woman near Barry's Amusements. 

A 17-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy were arrested a short time later.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested a short time later on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon,

Meanwhile, a 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possession of an article with a blade or a point in a public place and common assault. 

Both remain in custody at this stage. 

Inspector David Burns said, “Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1337 21/06/20.
