Funeral details have been released for the victim of a suspected murder-suicide in Co.Fermanagh.

Concepta Leonard was stabbed to death at her home on Abbey Road in Maguiresbridge on Monday night.

Her son Conor, who has downs syndrome, was also stabbed in the attack.

The 30 year old has told a parish priest he wishes to help carry his mother's coffin.

51 year old Concepta is believed to have been attacked by her former partner Peadar Phair.

The 55 year old then tried to take his own life before emergency services arrived, however he later died in hospital.

It's since emerged Ms.Leonard, who was a popular music teacher, had feared the suspected killer.

She'd taken out a non-molestation order in a civil court action in a bid to prevent her former partner from using or threatening violence against her.

It's understood the order due to expire hours after the murder, and she'd planned to apply for a fresh order on Tuesday.

The charity Women's aid says it highlights the need for victims of domestic abuse to be protected.

Kerry Flood from the charity said: "Use her name. Concepta, and talk about her son Conor. Let's lift the silence that surrounds this huge issue."

She continued "There are more domestic violence incidents in Northern Ireland than there are burglaries or drug incidents.

"It's one of the biggest criminal issues we face and yet we're often really scared or reluctant to talk about it."

The claims were later supported by official PSNI figures released on Wednesday which show Domestic and Paramiliarty violence has risen in the past 12 months.

Concepta Leonard's funeral will take place in St Mary's Church, Brookeborough, at 11am on Friday, where she will also be laid to rest afterwards.

'Connie' as he was known locally, is survived by her mother Moira and son Conor, Brother's Fergal and Kieran and Sister Denise.
