Police were called to reports of a suspicious object

By Q Radio News

Police say a security alert at Falcarragh Drive in Belfast last night was the result of an "elaborate hoax".

Officers were called to reports of a suspicious object in the front garden of a house in the area at about 11.30pm last night.

Homes in the street and surrounding area were evacuated, but after the object was examined, the PSNI found the device was fake.

Residents were allowed home at 4am and the hoax package has been taken away for forensic testing.

Officers thanked residents for their patience and appealed to anyone with any information to contact detectives at Musgrave on 101 quoting reference number 2177 16/05/21.

A report can also be made online using the non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/. Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at http://crimestoppers-uk.org/.
