A woman has been threatened with a knife as she went to buy an iPhone from someone in Downpatrick.

Two men forced her and another man to hand over cash last night in the Ballymote Walk area of the town.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested.

In a statement the PSNI said: "At approximately 7.30pm a man and woman met up with a man who was selling an iphone in the Ballymote Walk area. When they arrived they were confronted by two males, one of whom grabbed the female and threatened her with a knife. The man and woman were then forced to hand over a sum of money.

"Inspector Darren Hardy would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or anyone who has any information which could help with the investigation to contact Detectives at Criminal Investigation Branch at Downpatrick on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1212 08/02/18.

"Alternatively, information can be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is anonymous and gives people to the power to speak up and stop crime."
