The window and door of a flat in North Belfast have been damaged by masked intruders.

The men forced forced their way in to the property in the Cairndale area of Forthriver Drive just after 9 last night.

One of them was armed with a hammer.

No-one was inside at the time.

Police would like to speak to anyone who noticed two cars acting suspiciously in the area at the time.

A PSNI spokesperson said:

"I want to appeal to anyone who was in the area around this time last night and saw what happened, or anyone who saw any suspicious behaviour in the area to get in touch with us.

In particular, I want to appeal to anyone who saw two cars - possibly blue and black-coloured - in the area, around this time, being driven suspiciously to contact us.

“Anyone with information they believe may assist our investigation is asked to contact detectives in Musgrave on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1246 of 17/12/18. "

Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
