MPs suspend Ian Paisley from the Commons for 30 sitting days

The DUP's Ian Paisley will be suspended from the House of Commons for 30 sitting days from September 4 following a major breach of parliamentary rules, MPs have confirmed.

They supported the punishment recommended by the Committee on Standards during a Commons debate.

The North Antrim MP didn't declare two family holidays paid for by the Sri Lankan government.

He then went on to lobby on the country to the Prime Minister.

The suspension means the DUP Representative could miss some key Brexit votes and faces losing his seat in a by-election if 10% of his eligible constituents sign a petition.

Mr Paisley was not present in the chamber for the debate.
