A man has been charged in connection with an attempted hijacking in Belfast.

It happened on Thursday June 4 when a man wearing a balaclava and wielding a knife attempted to take a BMW car on the Lisburn Road.

The male driver was getting into his car at around 10.10am opposite a pharmacy when the perpetrator gained entry to the passenger's side.

The victim left the car after being shouted at and called for help before a van driver removed the masked man from the car.

The perpetrator claimed that he was armed with a knife and fled on foot towards the Capstone Road area.

No-one was injured during the incident.

A 29 year old suspect is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court by videolink today accused of attempted hijacking and possession of a blade or point in a public place.
