A man has been arrested on suspicion of importing cannabis following the discovery of around £140,000 worth of the drug from a car in Belfast.

The 37 year old was detained n Ainsworth Avenue in the city this afternoon.

It may be linked to the discovery of £200,000 worth of cannabis seized in Donegall Road at the start of this month where a 52 year old man was arrested.

The PSNI say follow up searches are taking place whilst they liase with other law enforcement agencies.

Detective Inspector Andy Dunlop said: "The man was arrested earlier today in the Ainsworth Avenue area of Belfast after great work by District colleagues acting on their investigative suspicions.

“His arrest follows the seizure of cannabis with an estimated street value of £140,000 by the officers from a nearby vehicle.

“We are also conducting follow-up searches and liaising with other law enforcement partners.

"The seizure again reinforces the determination of PSNI to keep people safe by preventing controlled drugs from reaching the streets.

“I believe it may be linked to an earlier seizure when a 52 year old male was arrested and £200,000 worth of cannabis found at an address in the Donegall Road area of Belfast on 2 March 2017."
