Four people are being treated in hospital in Belfast after a crash just outside Castlewellan.

A fifth person involved in the two vehicle crash on the Bryansford Road remains in a stable condition in Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry.

The Belfast Health and social care trust says three of the people involved are in a critical condition in the Royal Victoria Hospital.

A grey Ford Mondeo and silver VW Golf collided in the Kilcoo area around 11.30 on Wednesday night.

Sergeant Wallace said: “We are appealing to anyone that may have witnessed the collision to contact Downpatrick Police Station on the non-emergency number 101."
