A number of fish have been found dead in a water catchment area in Co.Antrim.

It's near the site of a controversial exploratory oil drill which closed at Woodburn reservoir in Carrickfergus last year.

NI Water says it will work with government departments to establish the facts.

Fish stocks have been replenished recently however, and the deaths may be linked to poor oxygen levels during transport.

A statement said "NI Water is clear that there is no impact from this incident on the final water quality leaving the treatment works."

It continued "Monitors continually check the quality of raw water entering the works and the quality of water going into the public supply.

"If anything is found that could affect the water quality, the site will automatically shut down and water will be taken from other areas to continue the supply."
