A car belonging to a family in the Manor Street area of North Belfast has been destroyed in a suspected arson attack.

Shortly after 2am in the early hours of this morning, the Volkswagen Touran was set alight.

Both the PSNI and the NIFRS attended the scene.

It's understood the vehicle belonged to a disabled person, whose family was preparing to go on holiday.

The following statement has been issued by local Councillor William Humphrey, on behalf of Ms.Blain, whose car was targeted:

"The family is deeply shocked and disgusted by the arson attack on their family car.

"There is no reason or justification for this attack.

"The family was preparing to go on holiday and this incident threatens that holiday.

"The car owner has a disability and the loss of the vehicle makes dealing with this disability much more difficult."

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact the PSNI by calling 101.

Alternatively information can be given anonymously by calling the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
