Kris Lindsay has been named the new manager of Dungannon Swifts.

The 34-year-old former Linfield defender leaves his role as first team coach at Glenavon to take over at Stangmore Park.

The appointment was announced on Tuesday night after the Swifts moved off the bottom of the Danske Bank Premiership with a shock 3-2 home win over champions Crusaders.

Meanwhile, Glenavon went top of the table by beating Ards 2-0 in Bangor.

And it finished 2-2 in a dramatic derby between Coleraine and Ballymena at Ballycastle Road.

The home side played most of the match with 10 men after striker Eoin Bradley was sent off.

New Bannsiders boss Rodney McAree says former club Dungannon have made the right decision to give Lindsay his old job....

Lindsay's first game in charge of the Swifts will be a quick return to Mourneview Park to face Glenavon on Saturday.

Derry City lost 3-2 in the League of Ireland against champions-elect Dundalk at Oriel Park.

The Louth side just need a point from their last four fixtures to confirm the title.
