A late goal gave Linfield a 1-0 win against Glentoran in the first Big Two derby of the season yesterday.

Kirk Millar’s effort was deflected in three minutes from time to settle the Danske Bank Premiership showdown at Windsor Park.

Robbie McDaid had earlier headed against the crossbar for the Glens.

Sean O'Neill saved a stoppage-time penalty as Crusaders beat Glenavon 3-2 at Seaview to extend their lead at the top to six points.

Cliftonville are up to third following a 4-0 win at Dungannon.

Ballymena drew 1-1 with visiting Coleraine who finished with nine men after red cards for Stephen O'Donnell and Adam Mullan.

10-man Larne won 4-1 away to Institute in Sean Connor’s first game in charge of the North West club.

Larne had goalkeeper Conor Mitchell sent off early in the second half.

Warrenpoint crashed to their sixth league defeat in a row, losing 3-0 against Carrick Rangers at Milltown with Stewart Nixon hitting a hat-trick.

Derry City have agonisingly missed out on retaining the EA Sports Cup.

Saturday night's final against Dundalk at the Brandywell ended two-each after extra time.

But the Candystripes eventually lost 6-5 in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Glentoran and Linfield Ladies drew 1-1 in the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership at the Oval on Saturday evening.

It leaves the Blues three points behind leaders Sion Swifts with a game in hand - and two to play (at home to Comber on Wednesday, away to Derry City a week later).

Sion go to Derry for their last match this Wednesday. The Strabane-based side have a superior goal difference - +11 better than Linfield.

So with both teams expected to win their final fixtures against the basement clubs the title race is set to go down to goal difference.
