Linfield have signed Northern Ireland under-21 star Shayne Lavery after he left Everton.

The 20-year-old from Lurgan joins the Danske Bank Premiership champions on a one-year deal.

Lavery spent four years at Goodison Park, with the past few months on loan at Falkirk.

He has one senior international cap, making his debut a year ago in the friendly with Panama.

LFC statement:

Linfield FC can today announce that striker Shayne Lavery has agreed to join Linfield in June on a one year contract.

The signing will be subject to the normal transfer clearance formalities.

Shayne is a 20 year old who has been with Everton since the age of 16, although he has spent the last few months on loan at Falkirk in Scotland.

He is a regular in the Northern Ireland Under 21 team and he made his full international debut last year against Panama.

Over the weekend he will join up with his under 21 international team mates for a game next week against England at St. George’s Park.

Linfield FC would acknowledge the assistance and cooperation of David Campbell Sportsmanagement in the Arrangements for the signing of this exciting young player.

David Healy was delighted to have secured the services of a player he admires greatly, for the season ahead.

“I’m very enthusiastic about young Shayne joining us. I’ve known him for some time and I know what an exciting and promising talent he is. He’s played at various underage international levels and made his senior international debut exactly a year ago.

He will certainly increase the competition levels within our squad and I’m really looking forward to working with him again, when he joins us for our UEFA Champions League preparations.

He’s a quality signing who I believe will fit in well with our squad and I know our supporters will make him feel most welcome.”

Speaking at Windsor Park today, Shayne spoke of his delight to be joining the reigning Premiership Champions.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have got this deal agreed to sign for Linfield. I know the manager and Ross very well and they have made me feel welcome and wanted. I just can’t wait to get started once I return here from international duty.

I have been impressed with the overall set up at the club and all the manager’s plans for the club, going forward. I also know Joel Cooper well and this really does feel like the right move for me at this stage of my career. I have had a taste of European football with Everton and at international level and I’m really looking forward to being involved in the club’s upcoming UEFA Champions League campaign. There will be strong competition for places but the challenge excites me and will bring out the best of me”
