Police investigating the murder of Katie Simpson have arrested a 20-year-old woman in England.

The 21-year-old died in  Altnagelvin Hospital on the 9th of August 2020,  after an incident at an address in Gortnessy Meadows, Derry/Londonderry on the 3rd of August.

Detectives from the PSNI's major investigation team are bringing the suspect to Northern Ireland for questioning.

In June , a man accused of murdering the 21-year-old show jumper from County Armagh, was granted bail by the High Court.

Jonathan Cresswell, 33, of Briar Hill Gardens, Greysteel, stands accused of murdering Katie.

At the time, a prosecution barrister told the court there had been a significant number of developments while Mr Cresswell, who was in a relationship with Ms Simpson's sister, was in custody.

Detective Inspector Mark Gibson said: “We continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder of 21 year old Katie who died at Altnagelvin Hospital on 9 August 2020,  following an incident at an address in Gortnessy Meadows, Derry/Londonderry on 3 August 2020.

“I am asking you today, if you have any information that could assist us with our investigation, no matter how insignificant you may think it is, please contact police.  Your information could be that vital piece we need to bring those responsible for Katie’s death to justice.

“Katie deserves justice.  Katie’s family deserve justice.
